KDLT: Legislators Talk Bills At Annual Breakfast
Legislators from Sioux Falls and surrounding communities share their views on policy and potential bills with members of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce. Each takes a turn with the microphone and the moderator.
"It's important to come, be able to share your opinions, your views, your attitudes on these issues," said Rep. Jim Bolin (R-Canton).
"I was expecting some good substantive conversation, and I think that came out today" said Buhl.
Many of the issues at the Legislative breakfast focused on the budget--a central issue ot the Legislature. But, unlike recent years past, a lot of the questions focused on social issues as well.
It's a sign some are ready to move past talk of deep cuts and structural deficits, but those discussions will remain a focus.
"It's always going to be finding that right balance for the revenue that we have to work with from year to year to decide where the needs are and what the priorities should be in that spending plan," said Sen. Joni Cutler (R-SD).
Evidence that the coming session will remain about spending every penny wisely.
The 87th Legislature will open at noon Tuesday and will run 35 days.
